Endless Activities in Litchfield Hills, CT
There’s nothing wrong with joining us here at Winvian Farm and doing—well, doing not much of anything, really, aside from marinating in the luxury of our unexcelled accommodations and hospitality. Days spent drifting between your charming, beautifully appointed cottage, our farm-to-table restaurant, and The Spa at Winvian sound like very good days to us.
But if you want to get out-and-about a bit, both on our sprawling 113-acre property and beyond amid our greater Litchfield Hills neighborhood, the sky’s the limit. From arranged experiences through our comprehensive guest services to self-guided explorations, there’s a tremendous amount to see and do during your Winvian stay. Here’s but an introductory overview!
Hiking
The Litchfield Hills of northwestern Connecticut’s serene and lovely highlands are a wonderful place to lace up the hiking boots. Deep hardwood forests, bedrock vantages overlooking rolling green (or fall-fired) heights, fragrant glades and murmuring riverbanks: There’s timeless scenery and bone-deep tranquility to be had here.
Wander our wooded and meadowed grounds, or explore the extensive trail network and 4,000-odd acres of our neighbor, the White Memorial Conservation Center. Some precious protected lands open to the public await you within easy day-tripping distance of your Winvian accommodations, from beloved Mount Tom State Park with its 1,325-foot summit topped by a historic stone tower to hidden gems such as Steep Rock Preserve, which includes old-growth hemlock groves and swoony views over the Shepaug River Valley.
You can pick up a trail map and get the lowdown on some recommended treks from the Winvian Farm concierge.
Biking
Each of our cottages comes with complimentary bikes for pedaling the Winvian property. You can also rent mountain bikes to hit the varied trails of the Litchfield Hills, or take advantage of West Cornwall’s Covered Bridge Electric Bikes and take an e-bike out for a spin (consider requesting a gourmet picnic basket for your outing!).
Other Outdoor Activities
We can arrange for private horseback rides—highly recommended! Seeing the Litchfield Hills from the saddle, after all, is one of the most pleasurable ways to really get inside this serene landscape. Or consider tubing on the Farmington River, or paddling out on nearby Bantam Lake (which partly falls within the White Memorial Conservation Center lands)—the biggest natural lake in the Constitution Lake.
We can also help you get a taste for excellent Litchfield Hills angling via fly-fishing or spin-casting jaunts, or sample some of the fine local golf courses.
Or you can stick closer to home and enjoy a bonfire here at Winvian Farm, with all the makings you need for s’mores and the perfect fireside ambience!
And So Much More…
At Winvian Farm, the sheer range of curated and independent activities to be had is amazing. Try your hand at fencing—perhaps honing your skills with Olympic fencer Marc Ganych—or learn the ins-and-outs of Philippine Kali sticks, Okinawa nunchakus, or Samurai Iaido. Sip some outstanding locally distilled spirits with a Litchfield Distillery tasting. Take a painting class, enjoy a private one-on-one yoga session, or finally check out the whole axe-throwing craze at the Litchfield County Axe House.
Whether you’re wandering a gorgeous New England forest, embarking on a culinary adventure, or blissing out on the yoga mat, Winvian Farm is the gateway to an unforgettable luxury vacation immersion in Connecticut’s Litchfield Hills.
